• Experts in factory worker safety inspected the plant and noted areas of concern. While the client was in solid compliance with OHSA requirements, these were only the starting point for deeper analysis focused on gaps between "requirements" and "standard of care."
• Leveraging a human factors viewpoint, our team surveyed whether new procedures made sense in the real world. Experience from hundreds of accident investigations shows this is a common point of failure.
• We paid special attention to the movement of materials across the entire facility, assessing every transfer and related processes, through questions such as, what are the properties of the material being transferred? How are they being transferred — from 18-wheelers or factory trucks? Using forklifts? Power jacks? Manual or assisted?

Health experts assessed risks related to different types of chemical exposures and provided safety guidelines, given the likely concentrations and exposure points. 

Experts in manufacturing technology evaluated the factory equipment, focusing on heat as a risk factor and cataloging concerns about ignition sources due to resistive heating. They provided recommendations for equipment spacing and heat dissipation. 

Exponent identified that a room in the factory was subject to the buildup of airborne dust, which can be explosive. A thermal engineer provided recommendations for dust containment that would negate the risk.
