Dr. Hassan specializes in fracture mechanics, continuum mechanics, finite element analysis, and materials characterization and design. He has expertise analyzing failure in consumer electronics applications through numerical and analytical modeling. Dr. Hassan also has extensive experience in developing and applying experimental methods to characterize the mechanical behavior of materials.
Prior to joining Exponent, Dr. Hassan completed his postdoctoral training and doctoral work at Harvard University, where he applied fracture mechanics to both linear and non-linear systems. During his time at Harvard, he worked on a three-year-long research collaboration with TSMC to analyze fracture in semiconductor devices and develop methods for characterizing the mechanical behavior of thin films. Within that collaboration, he investigated numerous failure problems in semiconductor devices and provided design strategies to avoid fracture. Earlier in his doctoral work. Dr. Hassan analyzed nonlinear fracture in polymers through a combination of experimental analysis and numerical analysis.
