Ms. Perera is a member of Exponent's Construction Consulting practice with experience in the construction and utility industries, supporting all stages of the project lifecycle — from inception to closeout. She has lead risk mitigation initiatives for a large electric distribution program that manages an extensive network of assets. Ms. Perera leverages both her business and technical background to develop effective strategies for the organization's needs. Her ability to effectively communicate, research, measure, and analyze has led to strong results that provide longstanding value to her clients.
Before joining Exponent, Ms. Perera worked on both private and public ground-up and building renovation projects in the Northeast for one of the largest national construction companies in the US. There she developed construction management expertise through roles in project management, site supervision, quality management, scheduling, safety, estimating, and procurement. She worked closely with architects, engineers, owners, and subcontractors in her roles to investigate solutions that would maintain or improve contractual obligations. Since starting her career, Ms. Perera has assisted project teams in achieving substantial completion for contract values of over $1B throughout New England.
One of Ms. Perera's strengths is working on multidisciplinary international projects. She has worked with students from over 40 countries at the Rotterdam School of Management at Erasmus University in the Netherlands during coursework for her MBA where she gained international business experience by working on diverse multidisciplinary teams. During that time, she consulted for a large international agricultural company and investigated smart city solutions aligned with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Early in her career, she worked with a non-profit in Thailand to support hill tribe land use rights through technology utilization and, most notably, worked on the Canal Expansion Project for the Panama Canal Authority in Panama consulting about impacts on the local community and environment.
Ms. Perera has a passion for construction technology and continues to pursue the impacts it is having on the industry. Her interest inspired her to sponsor a project with a local university that investigated innovative site solutions that would improve the construction lifecycle. Ms. Perera volunteers her time to help standardize Building Information Modeling (BIM) throughout the United States. She is continuing to learn about applications of technology and further developing expertise in the construction technology industry.
