If you want to challenge yourself and your capabilities, evolve as a scientific and technical consulting professional, and continue to develop your knowledge, then Exponent could be a great career home for you.
Every Day and Every Project is a Surprise
I'm a principal consultant in our London office in the Materials & Corrosion Engineering practice. Prior to my time at Exponent, I worked in consulting and nondestructive imaging across a number of sectors. My Ph.D. is in biophysics.
Working at Exponent you find that there's a variety of projects that you can get involved in right away. No day is the same here, and you never know what project may come your way. The breadth of projects is diverse in nature, and the teams are unique too — you can pull together a variety of experts, and work with colleagues from different parts of the world.
We are exceptionally collaborative and diverse in our thinking.
People are the core of Exponent. One day you could be working with expert colleagues on the West Coast, and another day with the team in Shanghai. Almost all of the projects we engage in are multidisciplinary, so you could be working with an electrical engineer, software engineer, biomedical engineer, construction engineer, depending on the project. Our capabilities are extensive across the globe. As an example, we can do crash testing in our US offices, X-ray computed tomography in London and inspect batteries in Shanghai.
We also deliver projects quickly in a very qualitative manner. It's very important that we give our clients the right answer, packed with the right science. When you work at Exponent, you find that you're constantly learning from the brightest minds in varied scientific disciplines, all while trying to answer the most complicated problems. This makes Exponent an exciting place to work.
We Make the World a Safer Place
My consulting work is focused on making products safer — that could be a consumer product or medical device, or anything in general that people are in contact with. One of the coolest projects I've worked on during my time at Exponent involved me being on-site with a client, working through a challenge with a medical device that has a profound role within hospital systems. This project was time critical and involved working at the factory site in another country. It involved a multidisciplinary team from around the globe. The fact that we were able to deliver on time and ensure that the device was safe was really rewarding.
We work in the cutting edge of science.
Working on medical device related projects can be an extremely rewarding experience because our teams bring together different aspects of science and help solve real world problems to save real human lives. The impact of our work is significant. We use the latest scientific instruments coupled with deep rooted fundamental scientific knowledge to find the right solutions.
We Offer Autonomy and Flexibility
Apart from all the interesting projects, Exponent is a fun place. I enjoy team building and socializing with my colleagues. My team usually has a group lunch every week, and on most occasions one of my colleagues will bring in home baked cake or even homegrown fresh vegetables. This kind of friendly, well nurtured environment makes Exponent a great place to work.
The variety of projects, the challenging nature of the type of work drew me to join Exponent, and the brightest minds in science - my wonderful colleagues keep me here!
The flexibility of Exponent also works for me. I have three young children including a set of toddler twins. I want to make sure I have breakfast with them in the morning and attend my older son's school sport fixtures. The independence and flexibility of my job allows me to work around my family life, and that, I think, is one of the greatest benefits of working at Exponent.
