Shane Kennett, Ph.D., P.E., CWI, Office Director & Principal Engineer, Exponent  
Dr. Kennett specializes in failure analysis, failure prevention, materials science, physical and mechanical metallurgy, assessment of engineering structures, and fracture mechanics. He has experience with a wide range of applications and industries, including oil and gas pipelines, refineries and operations, power generation equipment, mining equipment, mineral processing, raw material production, automotive safety equipment, off-road vehicles, surgical devices, medical implants, and microelectronics. 

Panelists: 

Emma Nierinck, Legal Director, Mantle Law 
Ms. Nierinck is an experienced dispute resolution lawyer, focusing on complex cross-border and domestic disputes arising out of major projects across a range of sectors, including energy and natural resources, construction, power, and infrastructure. She has particular expertise in commercial disputes arising from upstream energy (oil & gas) projects, as well as disputes arising from power and waste-to-energy projects. 
 
Sanjay Patel, Barrister, 4 Pump Court  
Mr. Patel is a versatile advocate whose practice focuses on large-scale disputes both in litigation and arbitration, often with a technical element. His commercial practice is currently recognized in the directories for energy, international arbitration, and construction. Throughout Mr. Patel's career he has worked on technically complex disputes concerning topics as diverse as the causes of corrosion in pipelines, financial derivatives, and the technology behind energy-from-waste plants. 
 
Mike Saulsbury, Managing Director, Secretariat   
Mr. Saulsbury is an expert on large-scale construction and engineering projects. He is routinely appointed by clients — or their legal counsel — in complex project disputes and has worldwide testimony experience as an expert witness. 
 
Kaitlin Spak, Ph.D., P.E., Principal Engineer, Exponent  
Dr. Spak specializes in the mechanical engineering of systems and structures, with specialized knowledge of vibration characterization and broad experience in analysis of machines and dynamic systems. As the highest level of certified vibration analyst, she has extensive experience in instrumenting and conducting dynamic tests and analyzing vibration and operational data. Dr. Spak has applied her engineering skills to projects involving pipeline joint failures; drilling and mining operations; industrial machinery; heavy equipment; engine failures; commercial and passenger vehicle design, analysis, accidents, and failures; bearing analysis; operational data analysis; consumer products and appliances; and equestrian tack.
