Sean Dee Elected Director of AIChE Executive Committee

Exponent thermal sciences consultant to serve a two-year term as a director of AIChE's Process Safety Division's Executive Committee

Sean Dee, Ph.D., P.E., CFEI, a senior managing engineer in Exponent's Thermal Sciences practice, has been elected as a Director of the Process Safety Division of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). Formed in 1908, AIChE is considered the world's leading organization for chemical engineering professionals with over 60,000 members from more than 110 countries and more than 350 active university chapters.

The organization supports community-building efforts for chemical and related engineering professions with an emphasis on equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives and academic curriculum development. AIChE's Process Safety Division enables the exchange of information among chemical engineers and others, promotes the application of chemical engineering in process safety, educates on the field's importance, and addresses safety and property protection issues in chemical manufacture and use.

Dr. Dee is an expert in chemical process safety, alternative energy, and high-purity oxygen systems, as well as a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI). Leveraging his extensive experience in root-cause analysis, combustible dust hazard analysis, and cryogenic storage systems, he helps clients mitigate risks related to accidents, losses, and injuries with risk assessments and accident investigation services across various industries. Dr. Dee also aids clients in green manufacturing processes, regulatory compliance, and consumer product investigations.

As a director, Dr. Dee will first be tasked with Chairing the Process Safety Division's Collaboration Committee. The Collaboration Committee's charge is to provide a conduit for collaboration between the membership of the Process Safety Division as well as other external stakeholders including AIChE's other divisions, industry technical groups, trade organizations, regulators, and academia.
