In a recent news segment by ABC Channel 7, "7 on Your Side," David Peraza, principal engineer at Exponent, provided insight and analyzed the dangers of the deterioration of the 138th Street overpass in the Bronx.
According to the article, the main support columns of the four-lane span over the Major Deegan Expressway have deteriorated and looks like "Swiss cheese" with big holes throughout the girders from rust.
"If these columns were to fail, the bridge above them would collapse, and it would take out both the bridge above and the highway below… Urgent action is needed to at least analyze if the bridge's columns pose any safety risk," Peraza told ABC 7.
